BRANDON HOOGENBOOM

hey you

Musician and visual artist Brandon Hoogenboom has just released his latest single Hey You and shares with Musicology some of his favourite visual artistry and musical collaborations.

andy shauf

To start on a strong note, how friggin good is Andy Shauf? His album "The Party" rejuvenated my love for music. It took me a little bit to warm up to his sound, but his music is so original, emotionally captivating, honest, and poetic, that you're immediately attracted to his awkward presence. There's a live version of his song "Wendell Walker" that I listened to on repeat on my way to work, crying the whole way.

But getting back to "The Magician" music video, It's been beautifully created by

Winston Hacking I love all of his random imagery though out the video and how they took vintage film photos and evolved them into a strange mushroom forest trip. His stuff is super rad.

beck

SO INSPIRATIONAL. This video made me want to learn how to animate. The Master mind behind the video is Antonio Vincentini. This dude must be super creative, or maybe took too much LSD. I don’t even like this song all that much but the video is amazing.

bahamas

I’ve always been a massive #fanboy for Bahamas. He worked behind the scenes producing and writing for a lot of really big bands. His music and lyrics are wholesome and meaningful. I support that.

Not sure if this is a music video or a short documentary on his writing process but either way it’s an awesome video showing how Afie is a people person and is not jaded by his recent successes.

canada

I had to group a bunch of videos into one because they're all done by the same production company; CANADA.

Pretty much everything these dudes make is gold.

They've made some killer music videos for Beck, Tame Impala, Phoenix, Vance Joy, El Guincho and a bunch more.

Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better. I really dig how they incorporate different mediums in this video. At 4 minutes in you can see some hand drawn art by Lope Serrano Sol. He is an artist at CANADA and I’ve always enjoyed his sporty and provocative style.

Phoenix - Trying To be Cool. Pretty rad Rube Goldberg style video. Phoenix kicks ass.

El Guincho - Bombay. I don't speak Spanish so I went to the extent to see if the lyrics in this song had anything to do with the video. As far as I can tell, it doesn't.

nowness

NOWNESS is an art and culture driven machine catered to design, fashion, beauty, music, food, and travel industries, described to be a global video channel. 30 seconds into any of their videos will make you feel extremely uncomfortable, but totally controlled by the unparalleled visual experience.
