LOITER
Three fuzzy guitars, two vibrant vocalists and one hard hitting rhythm section - these are the elements Brisbane band ‘Loiter’ keep tightly fastened to their toolbelt. It’s hard to believe their sound wasn’t meticulously crafted by scientists in lab-coats trying to find the perfect blend of modern Alternative Rock and Pop-Punk.
It’s easy to indulge in their infectious melodies, crafted by British-born vocalist Daryn and Australian-born vocalist Amber. The combination of dual-vocal arrangements working alongside a Tri-Guitar attack, Punk-fuelled Drums and rocksteady Bass grooves makes for Brisbane's latest interpretation of fresh-yet-nostalgic Alternative Punk Rock.
Originally birthed from a decade long friendship between Mitch Chen (Lead Guitar) and Tim Ricketts (Drums), they eventually met up with Daryn Yeats (Bass Guitar/Lead Vocals) through an online post in a local musicians Facebook group. Daryn, recently moving to Australia from his home in the UK, immediately gelled with the two long-term friends and they started cementing the foundation for what would soon become Loiter.
When it was clear they needed more noise in the band, they enlisted Amber Hudson (Guitar/Vocals) after seeing her online advertisement during a drunken bingo night at a local Brisbane venue. After months of jamming, writing and demoing material, they eventually recorded their first three track EP “’Alternative Sidekick”’ with long-term friend Matt Cochran (of WALKEN & Pandamic). The resulting EP showcases an eclectic blend of Funk, Pop-Punk & Grunge with lead single ‘Oceans’, as well as a catchy Alternative, Math & Pop Rock mixture with the opener ‘Even Now’ and the dark Alternative Grunge & Emo-laden Pop-Rock fusion laced within the closer ‘Underwater Blues’.
Prior to the release of the EP, the band decided that they needed to add even more attitude to the group by recruiting Brandon Day (Guitar) to help nail additional guitar sections live and add to the creative process.
Between late 2019 and mid 2020, they recorded their next two standalone singles with both Keelan Sanders and Matt Cochran handling the production duties, recorded between Bedlam Records and Matt’s home in Brisbane. The first new single In This Town is a re-imagining of a track Daryn’s been sitting on for roughly a decade or so and will be the band’s sole release for 2020. With In This Town firmly setting the band on course for a strong 2021, only time will tell where this Alt-Rock 5 piece ends up in the new year.
