PORT ROYAL
Formed over a shared passion of classic ‘Rock n Roll’ culture, Brisbane’s Port Royal are fast spreading their message of self-belief and unity through their music - across the country.
Emerging in 2015, the four piece powerhouse are fronted by Lawson Doyle, with Liam Morton (Guitar), Connor Arnold (Drums) and Samuel Shepherd (Bass). The band originated as a post-high school project, paying homage to their idols.
The evolution of their sound, now an eclectic mix of pop-rock, and blues influences, has become a beacon of light for those in search of a modern day injection of rock n roll. Their infectious guitar riffs combined with clever, honest lyricism makes for a musical flavour that evokes an optimistic and empowering notion within their listenership.
With their live performance a high energy, heavily engaging and irresistibly entertaining show, Port Royal are becoming known to fans and critics alike as a force to be reckoned with.
They possess something of the early 90’s Britpop movement with their references to the likes of Oasis, flavoured with a heavy injection of AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. All this while still maintaining their own unique sound and an attitude that keeps them away from any possible accusation of role-play or stereotype.
The band have two EP’s to date; the first The Express in 2016 and Love, Passion, Satisfaction in 2018, with a collection of catchy singles, including fan favourite Rock & Roll is Dead, which reached #3 on the 4ZZZ Hottest 100 in 2018 and a month long feature on Rage and MTV Australia.
Their January 2019 single Don’t You Forget About Me, received enthusiastic support from their fans and met critical acclaim. The latest single Ain’t Got You was released in June of this year.
Since their inception, the band have achieved a string of notable live performances including sell out shows at venues including The Zoo and Lefty's Music Hall in Brisbane. The band also appeared at Bluesfest 2019, St Kilda Festival 2019 and will later in the year, perform a headlining spot at the Caloundra Music Festival. They have supported international heavy weights Dead Kennedys (US), Supersuckers (US) and Australian favourites Wolfmother, The Delta Riggs & The Jungle Giants.
On June 28 of this year, the band released their infectious new single ‘Ain’t Got You’ and set off on a 17-date tour of the country. With its Beatles-esque melodic influence, romantic evocation and uplifting rhythmic nature, ‘Ain’t Got You’ has quickly proven a favourite amongst audiences widespread. With secured airplay on Triple J and Triple M, an array of community radio support nationally, and what is now a clocked 25K streams on Spotify, the single has helped cement the band as one Australia’s most electric, must-see, up and coming acts. Recent headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney saw sell out capacity whilst a number of regional shows saw large increases in numbers.
Port Royal are taking no shortcuts in preparation for their next upcoming release ‘That’s How You Want It To Be’. This new track takes the band back to the roots of their inspiration quoting bands such as ‘The Black Key’s’, Jet and The Rolling Stones as the biggest influences during the song writing process. ‘That’s How You Want It To Be’ is the first taste of an upcoming EP for Port Royal which is due for release in early 2020.
The band will be hitting the road once again for a short run of dates in support of the new single.
