MATTEO DEBENEDETTI OF CHARLIE & MARGOT

Today Charlie & Margot, the musical project of Matteo DeBenedetti, share with Musicology the second single "sleeping" from upcoming debut album Joyride. The 8-song LP, out April 7th, spans from indie to Americana and alternative, and isn’t afraid to wear influences like Jason Isbell and Dr. Dog on its sleeve while still feeling like its own unique piece of art.

As DeBenedetti explains, "Sleeping is written about facing up to the idea that sometimes putting your trust in other people can ultimately end up being a bad thing for you, and sometimes it’s best to take matters into your own hands. In this instance, it’s very specifically regarding being a musician, being involved with other people as a touring musician (as a grown adult) at a DIY level, and navigating all the nuances that come with that."

Produced by longtime friend and collaborator Erik Kase Romero (the Front Bottoms, Lorde, The Bouncing Souls), the fully live tracked debut LP comes with a sense of urgency that can only instill the feeling this is just the opening page of a longer story to come.

Charlie & Margot is the brainchild of New Jersey native Matteo DeBenedetti. A songwriter since childhood, Matteo cut his teeth in various bands touring the DIY circuit of the east coast for the last decade.

2019 brought an unprecedented moment of introspection, and out of the uncertainty of what would follow that year, Charlie and Margot was born as a solo songwriting venture, taking its name from Matteo and his wife’s two dogs.
