pretty city

Music’s premier showcase for artists from around the world, South by Southwest, sees some of the finest up and coming bands from around the globe. Australian indie rockers Pretty City shared with Musicology some candid moments throughout their 2018 SXSW experience.

DOWNTOWN

Austin is a beautiful city if you actually get 5 minutes to look up at it. They have some amazing brutalist type architecture and lovely streets and parks. In fact if you go just an hour outside of Austin it's almost like Tuscany in Italy. Beautiful rolling hills and countryside. SXSW can often seem dirty and grimy, but it's really only for a week, then it returns to its beautiful self.

(GOOD) COFFEE

Coffee is important in anyone's life. Unfortunately Americans still haven't figured out it's quality over quantity. Hugh has a particular nack for finding places that will serve him coffee 5 minutes before a late night show. And here he is at Australia house with an Americano in hand. Don't know how he does it.

FOOD OF THE GODS

One thing Americans seem to do particularly well though is pizza. It's seriously out of this world. Even shitty food trucks can bang out some slices that will blow your mind. Stony's PIzza seen here was one such establishment. 2 choices. Pepperoni or cheese. $4 a slice. Boom.

TECHNOLOGY

It took us waaaay too long to figure out vending machines. They only take ones. Information that would have been more appreciated prior to everything closing at 2AM and you're desperate for some water.

ART WORK EXHIBITION

The great thing about SXSW is that it brings all edges of the music industry together. One of those things is poster art and this amazing poster exhibition they put on. There were dozens of artists exhibiting and selling their amazing art work. Many I've seen only online in picture galleries and instagram accounts and it was amazing to not only see these amazing works of art in person but also meet the artists who made them.

CANCEL THE FUTURE

Following on from a successful release and tour cycle of debut album Colourize, Melbourne’s Pretty City are now ready to introduce fans to the second instalment of their growing body of work: 2018’s Cancel the Future.

“It’s hard to pinpoint where we all meet musically, as there’s a lot of diverse musical tastes and training, yet we have been able to focus all of that into one sound that is unmistakably us.” - Johnny Rock, Pretty City
