SHVRDZ

This track is number one on the list. It was one of the first electronic songs I’d ever heard and was my gateway into EDM. My friend played it to me on the school bus one morning and I instantly became obsessed with the whole EP for the next year or so. Skrillex is a massive influence for everything I do and pretty much all his music has had a huge impact on me, but this song is where it all started.

​​​Bit of a strange choice, but let me explain. This goes right back to when I was about 6. My parents gave me a little mp3 player for my birthday, that my Dad had loaded with songs that he thought I would like. It had music from artists such as, Dire Straits, The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. These songs became the sound of my early childhood and still to this day La Grange is one of my favourite songs.

​​This song is such a banger. I found this around the time I started DJing. In high school my mates and I would DJ at 21^st’s and other parties. I remember the very first one we did, we had no idea what we were doing or what sort of music to play. All we had was a big selection of Deadmau5’s music. No doubt this song got played a few times.

This is my most played track in my iTunes library. I think I listened to this every car trip or bus ride I ever took. I just love the vibe of it and the feeling it gives you. At the time it was like nothing else I’d ever heard before.

I can’t finish this list without mentioning Jack Ü. This album came out of nowhere and I instantly become obsessed. This is my favourite track off the record however the whole thing basically inspired me to start writing music as SHVRDZ. I just love how the whole song sounds familiar, but also is very new at the same time. I don’t know how to describe it. There’s no doubt that this record not only changed me, but the face of electronic music in general. ​
